With a distinguished music career as conductor, educator, composer, and performer Owen Duggan is recognized for his creative concert programming, sensitive interpretation, and astute rendering of style. He holds degrees from McGill University (Theory), University of North Texas (Voice), and University of Texas at Austin (Applied Music). In addition he has undertaken post-graduate studies in conducting at the Eastman School of Music.
In addition to his directorship at Musica Sacra San Antonio since 2016, Owen is currently Music Chair at San Antonio Academy as well as Music Director at Northwood Presbyterian Church, San Antonio. As a choral builder he founded the Chilliwack Festival Chorus and Chilliwack Summer Musical Theatre in British Columbia in 1995, as well as the Chapel Boychoir of San Antonio in 1999. As a church musician he has also served at St. Andrew’s United Church (Montreal, Quebec), St. Barnabas Epsicopal Church (Denton, Texas), St. Martin’s Episcopal Church (Houston, Texas), and Christ Episcopal Church (San Antonio, Texas).
Along with his current teaching and directing position at the San Antonio Academy, Owen has taught at San Jacinto College (Houston), San Antonio College, Our Lady of the Lake University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio where he conducted the UTSA Orchestra and five choirs in the December 2019 Winterlude concert.
As a solo vocalist Owen has an extensive repertoire in art song, contemporary music, oratorio, and opera, and he has performed with numerous arts organizations including the Austin Civic Chorus, San Antonio Lyric Opera, San Antonio College Artist Series, Texas Bach Choir, and Fiesta San Antonio.
An active choral composer-arranger and singer-songwriter Owen has works published by Colla Voce Music, as well as an extensive catalog of self-published works. He has also recorded a number of award-winning original children’s and Americana songs that are nationally distributed by MRI Entertainment/SONY RED.
